ECO-I: A system for Data and Insights Integration in INPERSO

ECO-I, developed by CORE IC, is a system within the INPERSO project, designed to interconnect diverse data sources and deliver real-time insights to the INPERSO platform. With its robust and adaptable architecture, ECO-I handles the complexity of integrating heterogeneous data streams from three demo cases located in Europe. By leveraging a two-layered approach, ECO-I ensures both the efficient collection of sensor data and the generation of advanced analytics and optimization insights through dedicated intelligence systems.

To support these operations, ECO-I provides a secure and reliable pipeline for data transmission, utilizing a RESTful API (an online programming interface) for seamless interaction with the INPERSO platform developed by DEMO Consultants. This infrastructure guarantees uninterrupted data flow across diverse systems while being easily adaptable to future expansions, additional datasets, and evolving project requirements.

Layer 1: Sensors’ Data

The first layer of ECO-I is dedicated to collecting and integrating raw data from the demo cases, utilizing various technologies and streaming protocols. ECO-I’s flexibility allows it to work across brokers, RESTful APIs, direct database access, and other streaming technologies, ensuring secure and seamless integration regardless of the underlying technology stack. Measurements’ data include:

  • Air Quality Data: Collected by sensors installed and managed by  partner EPFL, these measurements include parameters such as CO2 levels, particulate matter, and humidity, offering a detailed view of indoor environmental quality.

  • Energy Data: Provided by project partners IRIS and AMS, these metrics include real-time energy consumption and generation. IRIS supplies data for Use Cases 1 and 2, while AMS supports Use Case 3, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of energy dynamics across the sites.

Layer 2: Data driven Intelligence

The second layer of ECO-I transforms the foundational sensor data into actionable insights, powered by CORE IC’s MuSECS (Multi-Stage Energy Consulting System) and EPFL’s IEQ (Indoor Environmental Quality) interface.

 MuSECS:

  •  Forecasting Models: MuSECS delivers precise predictions of energy consumption and generation

  • Optimization Results: Energy forecasts drive real-time optimization of energy dispatch, reducing total energy costs and minimizing estimated CO2 emissions by dynamically managing energy consumption, generation, and storage from available sources.

  • Asset Health Monitoring: By analyzing energy data from critical residential equipment, MuSECS employs anomaly detection models to assess device health, providing early maintenance alerts.

IEQ (Indoor Environmental Quality):

Air Quality Optimization: Using detailed air quality measurements, the IEQ interface offers actionable recommendations to improve indoor environmental conditions. These insights foster healthier, more sustainable living environments across the demo cases.

ECO-I’s two-layered architecture not only integrates raw sensor data but also provides advanced intelligence for energy optimization and air quality improvements. By utilizing CORE IC’s MuSECS and EPFL’s IEQ systems, ECO-I seamlessly integrates with the INPERSO platform. Within this platform, the data are visualized through highly intuitive and detailed models, transforming complex information into accessible, user-friendly formats. This provides actionable results, enabling end-users to monitor, analyze, and optimize building performance in real-time.

From improving energy efficiency to maintaining healthy indoor environments, ECO-I’s integration with the INPERSO platform ensures that raw measurements and data-driven insights are readily available to support informed decision-making and drive sustainable building management practices.
